Overview
Agent-assisted Kindle modding shared on X by @adriandlam_: he connected his Kindle Paperwhite (12th gen) over USB, gave Claude Code the kindlemodding.org docs and let it jailbreak the Kindle, then removed the Amazon bloat and added Tailscale.
What it does
Use-case ideas
- Read-later on the Kindle: “anytime i'd like to read something later, i save the article using readeck then it downloads + syncs with my home server”, and “when my kindle syncs i get it on the kindle!” [3]
- Books from a home server: “i pull books off shelfmark which auto import into CWA, which then syncs to the kindle” [4]

How it works
Claude Code worked from the kindlemodding.org docs with the Kindle connected over USB. The creator says he “literally just gave it the docs”. No guide, code or commands were published, and this page doesn't add any.
Limits and caveats
- Recent Kindle firmware may be patched against this: kindlemodding.org says firmware updates “can block jailbreaking methods”. [6]
- kindlemodding.org describes jailbreaks as different methods that lead to one goal, “as other methods become patched”. [7]
- The creator wasn't sure it would still work after updates: “i also install updates pretty regularly so not sure”. [5]
- The creator notes jailbreaking is against Amazon's terms: “"jailbreaking" is against amazon toc”. [8]
- kindlemodding.org's FAQ asks “Will this void the warranty on my Kindle device?” and answers “Probably.” [9]
- No build guide, code or repo was published. HardwareLab doesn't give steps or commands; kindlemodding.org is the reference the creator used. [2]
