Overview

A smart mirror on a Raspberry Pi display talks by voice. Inference runs on a local Ollama server, with no cloud.

How it works

A Raspberry Pi behind a two-way mirror handles voice in and out; inference runs on a local Ollama server.

Why it's interesting

MirrorMate puts a voice assistant behind a half mirror on a Raspberry Pi, and its README is clear about what it is not: not a smart display, not a cloud-dependent assistant and not another browser chat UI. You can start with just a Pi and the OpenAI API, or run fully local with Ollama for the LLM and VOICEVOX for speech, using a Mac Studio or other GPU machine for the heavy lifting. Say "Hey Mira" to wake it. Speech recognition can be the Web Speech API, OpenAI Whisper or local Whisper, and embeddings come from Ollama or PLaMo-Embedding-1B. It extracts facts about you from conversations and retrieves them with RAG for personalized answers, and a lip-synced avatar shows eight states such as listening, thinking and speaking.
